You might have seen our recent Facebook post about two kittens abandoned at the centre in circumstances that were challenging for our team. We spoke to BBC CWR about it yesterday in more detail but if you missed that:
- The kittens - Kiji and Jiji - are currently being looked after by one of amazing fosterers and doing well
- The team at the centre deal with abuse daily, we understand that times are challenging but we are a small animal welfare charity
- While we uphold the values of the National RSPCA, they do not fund our centre, we fund that through adoptions, grants and retail plus fundraising
- It costs us around £540k a year to operate. This is all audited on the Charity Commission (number 1208493 or 223678)
- Stray dogs are the legal responsibility of the council (dog wardens) and while we support where we can, we aren't licensed for strays.
- We only have a license to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome cats and dogs for the general public within Coventry, Rugby, Solihull and Nuneaton
The team at the centre are amazing. They always put cats and dogs first. They will always try to help anyone who comes as well. We have space for up to 80 cats and up to 45 dogs at the centre alongside our expanding, and amazing, foster network who foster 60+ animals between them but there are so many more cats and dogs that need help within our region.
We’re not alone in this challenge, animal charities across our region are all trying to help as many animals as possible with limited funds. And we work with many of these too so that we can help as many cats and dogs as possible.
We might need to make things work in different ways or timeframes and we can only do that well when you work with us. The responsibility of animal care is on us all, we’re here to help with that.
If you've still got a question about our centre please let us know. We'd love to bust some myths about the RSPCA Coventry and share the answers online, we've switched comments off purposefully for this post so that we can collate your thoughts via email. If you've got a question please email
fundraising@rspca-coventryanddistrict.org.uk, we'd love to hear from you.
